We are not limited to the number of people that attend, but need to have as a minimum 7 to have the course go ahead. The course is also available to other camera club members, and anyone else who may be interested.

The workshop will be about Composition.

Composition and visual design is one of the great challenges for any photographer. Photography has its own challenges, and knowing where to place the subject within the frame is an art in and of itself.

Through a series of lectures and discussions, along with practical sessions and evaluations, the workshop will look at the components of visual design ( line, tone, frame and their visual importance, including how placement of subject material can affect a viewer’s reading of an image. Through a series of challenging exercises participants will be given the opportunity to shoot images for critiquing sessions.

The workshop will focus on the difference between composition and visual design. Understanding the visual design components of an image and their effect on both the emotional and aesthetic results can be very liberating. Above all, this workshop will focus on stepping past the rules and helping participants accept they have an inbuilt sense of composition and the ability to develop an individual design aesthetic.

Congratulations to the club and those people who submitted images to the Six Ways Competition.

When I get the results I’ll post the points and results add the details.

This event is part of the Worldwide Photowalk run by Scott Kelby, and anyone is welcome. There are up to 50 places, and you need to register at the website to join the walk. At this stage the plan is for a late afternoon/evening walk on Saturday July 24th, starting from Fat Dog Cafe and back again to meet there for coffee/wine/food and sharing of images.

Please go and join up at the Photowalk page if you want to come along. It would be great to have a large group to enjoy the walk, and do something social while taking photos. Any questions you may have can be asked at the photowalk webpage.

A few of us in the club are keen to get discussions going between our club members, but are aware that the use of the club email might not be the most appropriate means to do this. Petra has kindly volunteered to facilitate this group, and it would be wonderful if you could show support for her enthusiasm by checking it out.

In an effort to encourage discussion and a diverse sense of community, we are inviting camera club members to our flickr group, where we can hold such discussions about things such as camera gear, inspirations and whatever else comes to mind. Rather than use the club email list to do this, we thought flickr might be an ideal alternative for those who are interested in engaging in online discussions, and if the interest is strong then we could consider doing something that doesn’t involve another website and host something ourselves.

The link for the flickr group is here , and all you need is a yahoo ID to be able to join flickr, and then join the group and you’ll be set. A lot of club members already use flickr, which is why we thought we’d start here. As of today, the Flickr group has 15 members registered, 38 images posted, and 4 discussion topics. It’d be great to see more!

Last Saturday was #2 out of our series of six workshops about how to use your camera better, with more confidence, to MAKE better pictures (as opposed to TAKING pictures).

#3 will be THIS Saturday, 1st May at 4 p.m. at Sulphur Point
(go past the Event Centre and turn left towards the boat ramp)
There are many interesting subjects: people, cars, boats, birds, shore things and maybe we can work a little towards LANDSCAPE, the subject for club meet on Wednesday.
